A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck several cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday morning, causing panic among residents.
The tremors were felt in Malakand, Upper Dir, Shangla, Swat, and other surrounding areas, with no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. The tremors were felt across various regions, including Kohat, Parachinar, Hangu, and Orakzai districts.
According to the Met Department, the earthquake's epicentre was located in Afghanistan.
In Malakand, strong tremors shook Batkhela city and nearby areas, leading to people rushing out of their homes and workplaces in fear. Similarly, residents in Shangla, Swat, and surrounding areas reported intense shaking.
According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad, the epicentre of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan and its depth 187 kilometres. Its magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded 5.7.
