In an effort to revive the national economy, the Pakistani government has intensified its crackdown on smuggling activities across the country.
Smuggling poses a significant threat to economic development, and the government aims to safeguard public welfare and stabilize the economy through these operations.
During October alone, authorities seized over 26,680 cigarette stocks, 0.138 million litres of Iranian oil, and 456 pieces of fabric. Law enforcement agencies reported that 10,980 cigarette stocks were confiscated in Karachi, 15,500 in Peshawar, and 200 in Quetta. Additionally, 372 fabric pieces were seized in Karachi, while 84 were confiscated in Quetta. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 0.001 million litres of Iranian oil from Multan, 0.009 million litres from Karachi, and 0.128 million litres from Quetta.
Since September 1, 2023, authorities have recovered 13,088.75 metric tons of fertilizer, 8,613.1 metric tons of flour, 35,128.9 metric tons of sugar, 4,372,675 cigarette stocks, 154,560 fabric pieces, and 17.257 million litres of Iranian oil. Law enforcement remains committed to combating smuggling to help alleviate the country's economic challenges.
