WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta, is rolling out new features aimed at enhancing users' video playback experience in its latest iOS update.
According to WABetaInfo, the update—version 24.20.78—introduces several key features, including the ability to adjust video playback speeds and the much-anticipated picture-in-picture (PiP) mode.
The new playback speed controls offer users the flexibility to watch videos at normal speed, 1.5x, or 2.0x, allowing for faster consumption of content. The speed adjustment option is conveniently located next to the video progress bar, giving users easy access to customise their viewing preferences.
In addition, the update brings the PiP feature, enabling users to resize the video window and move it around the screen while continuing other tasks. With the PiP mode, users can browse other chats, send messages, or even use different apps without interrupting video playback.
Essential controls like skipping forward, skipping backward, and pausing the video are also included within the floating PiP window.
These new features are compatible with devices running iOS 14 and later versions, as the required Application Programming Interface (API) has been available to developers since iOS 14's release. While some users may already have access to these features, others may see them rolled out gradually over the coming weeks.
For users who haven’t received the new updates yet, it is advised to keep WhatsApp updated via the App Store or the TestFlight app to ensure they receive the latest enhancements.
