WhatsApp is expanding its custom chat theme feature for iOS users, adding a broader selection of themes and colors in its latest beta update.
According to WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp for iOS version 24.20.71 now offers 22 distinct themes and 20 color options, enhancing the ability to personalise individual and group chats.
In previous reports, WhatsApp was found to be working on Instagram-like themes that allow users to set different interfaces for each contact or group, giving users a more personalized messaging experience. Initially, there were around ten preset themes. With this update, the number of preset themes has grown significantly, providing even more options.
To access this feature, users can navigate to Chat Info within any conversation to change the chat colors. Once a color is selected, WhatsApp automatically assigns a wallpaper that aligns with the chosen theme for a consistent aesthetic. Users can still manually change the wallpaper to ensure distinct designs, even if multiple chats share the same theme color.
Preset themes include both chat bubbles and wallpapers, with a preview feature available for user convenience. Users also have the option to set a universal theme across all chats via Settings > Chats > Chat Wallpaper.
Unlike Instagram, where themes are applied to both sender and recipient, WhatsApp’s custom themes are exclusive to the user’s device. The recipient will not see the same theme, ensuring personalized control over chat appearances.
Currently available to beta users, this feature is expected to roll out widely in the near future. Stay tuned for more official details on its release.
