Mujahedah Hussain Bibi, a freedom fighter from Poonch in Azad Kashmir, has been posthumously awarded the Tamgha-e-Mujahed Haidri, equivalent to Pakistan's third-highest military honor, the Sitara-e-Jurat.
Hussain Bibi volunteered for the Kashmir liberation struggle in 1947-48, enlisting as a soldier in the 5th Azad Kashmir Regiment. On the night of October 4-5, she joined a frontline unit armed with swords and rifles.
During the conflict, Hussain Bibi demonstrated exceptional valor against the Dogra forces. She inflicted significant losses on the enemy before embracing martyrdom on October 7, 1947.
The Tamgha-e-Mujahed Haidri was bestowed upon Hussain Bibi in recognition of her services. She is the first woman to receive this prestigious award, setting a precedent for future generations of women in the region.
