Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has disconnected more than 3,000 illegal gas connections in Sindh and Balochistan as part of an ongoing crackdown on gas theft. The operation, facilitated by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), has led to new arrests and raids, tightening the noose around gas pilferers.
The company's Theft Control Unit, collaborating with the Customer Relations Department, made significant progress in the anti-theft drive. In Karachi, police apprehended owners of a sweet shop and a spare parts service station for gas theft.
During recent operations, SSGC teams terminated approximately 3,029 unauthorized domestic connections across various areas. In Karachi alone, over 2,609 illegal underground and overhead gas connections were dismantled in localities including Gulshan Iqbal, Nazimabad, Lyari, Malir, and Baldia Town.
The crackdown extended to other regions, with 20 illicit domestic gas connections severed in Nawabshah and Larkana. To prevent future theft incidents, service lines and equipment used for gas pilferage were systematically disconnected.
SSGC officials emphasize that gas theft undermines the credibility of legal and regulatory systems, making law enforcement challenging. The SIFC's efforts aim to reduce theft rates, safeguard economic interests, and ensure uninterrupted energy supply.
