Over 12,000 Muslims, led by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Imtiaz Jaleel, marched towards Mumbai to protest against recent incidents of hate speech and religious extremism. The demonstrators are calling for action against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nitesh Rane and Hindu preacher Ram Giri Maharaj for their alleged inflammatory remarks against Muslims last month.
The march comes in response to growing concerns about discrimination and religious intolerance faced by minorities, particularly Muslims, in India. Protesters demand accountability for those spreading religious hatred and threaten violence against the Muslim community.
Multiple cases have been filed against BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in Maharashtra for his speeches targeting Muslims. Additionally, lawyer Wasi Syed has filed a petition in the High Court regarding this matter.
Imtiaz Jaleel, addressing the protesters, stated that the government has forgotten about religion and culture, necessitating this march to Mumbai as a reminder. He criticized the politicization of religion and caste, as well as the public abuse directed at Muslims, while accusing the government and police of remaining silent on these issues.
The demonstrators are seeking action against those inciting religious hatred and emphasize that the perceived government-backed marginalization of their community is unacceptable.
