An 11-year-old boy, Carlo "Kingston" Dorelli, has been arrested after allegedly boasting about a large collection of weapons and creating a "kill list" targeting two schools.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office seized a variety of weapons, including airsoft rifles, pistols, knives, swords, and throwing stars, after Dorelli showed classmates a video of his stockpile and made violent threats.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood announced Dorelli’s arrest on Facebook, confirming that the boy had written a list of names and potential targets.
"He says it was all a joke," Chitwood stated, but the seriousness of the threat led to a felony charge for making a written threat of mass violence. A video released by the sheriff's office shows Dorelli being led in handcuffs into a detention facility, and images of the seized weapons were also shared.
Chitwood has taken a tough stance against juvenile threats, particularly in the wake of an increase in prank threats following the tragic Apalachee High School shooting in Georgia, which left four people dead. He emphasized that juveniles making such threats would be publicly named and photographed.
"Every time we make an arrest, your kid’s photo is going to be put out there. We're gonna come and get you," Chitwood stated, calling for accountability in preventing disruptions to schools and the misuse of law enforcement resources.
Following the Georgia shooting, President Joe Biden reiterated his call for stricter gun laws, including a complete ban on assault weapons. "We cannot continue to accept the carnage of gun violence. We need more than thoughts and prayers," Biden said.
