In a special ceremony today, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh conferred the prestigious Sitara-i-Khidmat upon U.S. Congressman Alexander N. Green in recognition of his outstanding contributions towards strengthening Pakistan-US relations.
The award also highlights his efforts in promoting a positive image of Pakistan within the U.S. Congress.
The investiture ceremony, attended by key figures such as Congressman Randy Weber, Rep. Henry Cuellar, former Congressman Nick Lampson, Texas State Representative Suleman Lalani, diplomats, and prominent members of the Pakistani-American community from Texas and the DMV area, marked a moment of celebration for Congressman Green's longstanding commitment to bilateral relations.
Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh lauded Congressman Green for his pivotal role in fostering stronger ties between the two nations, noting that his dedication has greatly contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration.
The Sitara-i-Khidmat, one of Pakistan's highest civilian honors, recognizes individuals who have rendered exceptional services to the country. Congressman Green's continued advocacy for a stronger partnership between Pakistan and the U.S. has made a significant impact in political and diplomatic spheres.
Recalling the visit of Congressman Al Green to Pakistan during devastating floods of 2022, the Ambassador observed that Representative Al Green not only travelled to Pakistan to express his solidarity with the people of Pakistan at a most difficult time but he also returned to the US Congress to passionately advocate for timely assistance.
Besides highlighting and appreciating humanitarian causes, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh also lauded Congressman Green’s invaluable contributions towards combating terrorism in the region and his support for significant legislative initiatives like the Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement Act of 2009.
On his part, Congressman Al Green expressed his gratitude to the government and the people of Pakistan for the honor.
While referring to decades long mutual cooperation between the two nations, Congressman Al Green expressed desire to continue to build people to people relationships.
Recalling his fond memories of Pakistani society, Congressman Al Green said that we must not allow any wedge to come between the people of Pakistan and USA.
