Dania Shah, the ex-wife of the late renowned Pakistani TV host Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain, has reportedly been receiving serious threats following her recent remarriage.
The threats, which allegedly include demands for her current husband, Hakeem Shahzad Ahmed, to divorce her or face fatal consequences, have prompted the couple to seek government protection.
The issue was brought before the Multan High Court, where Justice Asim Hafeez presided over a petition filed by Dania Shah and Hakeem Shahzad. According to the petition, the couple has been receiving menacing calls from international numbers, warning them of dire outcomes if they do not comply with the threats. Despite reporting the situation to relevant authorities and requesting security, they have yet to receive any official protection.
During the court hearing, the petitioners emphasized the severity of the threats and their willingness to cover the costs of the security measures themselves. They stressed that the threats are not to be taken lightly, particularly after the tragic death of Dania’s first husband, Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
Dania Shah’s second marriage to Hakeem Shahzad Ahmed took place after the completion of her Idda (a waiting period observed by widows in Islam). The couple is currently residing in Shahpur, a suburb of Shujaabad. The situation has raised concerns for their safety, prompting legal action to secure government intervention.
Justice Asim Hafeez has ordered the Deputy Commissioner and CPO Multan to respond to the petition by September 17, addressing the couple's request for protection.
Dania Shah confirmed her second marriage in a video statement last month, in which she introduced her new husband, Hakeem Shahzad, a lawyer by profession. The couple later celebrated their wedding ceremony, which was followed by the distressing threats that have now led them to seek legal and governmental assistance.
