The Sindh government has decided to purchase 138 luxury vehicles for assistant commissioners, a move that has raised eyebrows due to the significant expenditure involved.
According to official sources, the government plans to buy double-cabin vehicles worth a staggering over Rs1.99 billion. The Sindh cabinet has already given its approval for this acquisition, and the finance secretary has written a letter to the relevant authorities to initiate the procurement process.
The decision to allocate such a substantial amount of money for luxury vehicles has sparked a debate, especially considering the financial challenges faced by the province. Critics argue that the funds could be better utilized for public welfare projects, while government officials maintain that the vehicles are necessary for the efficient functioning of the Assistant Commissioners.
As the procurement process moves forward, the Sindh government's decision is likely to continue drawing public scrutiny and discussion.
Back in April, the Punjab government sanctioned the procurement of 37 bulletproof vehicles to enhance the security of Chinese engineers and officials involved in various projects, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
According to details, the Punjab government greenlit the acquisition of 11 bulletproof vehicles specifically designated for CPEC projects. Additionally, approval was granted for the purchase of 23 vehicles intended for Chinese residents working on other projects within the province.
Officials confirmed there were already 18 bulletproof vehicles in place to ensure the safety and security of Chinese citizens.
