A spell of heavy rainfall on Monday night has brought much-needed relief to Lahore and several districts across Punjab.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert, instructing all concerned departments to remain vigilant.
Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of PDMA, has directed Deputy Commissioners throughout the province to stay on high alert. In his statement, Kathia emphasized the importance of preparedness, urging all relevant departments to be ready to manage any potential emergencies. The District Emergency Operation Centers across Punjab have been activated, with ongoing monitoring from the PDMA control room.
The DG PDMA has also instructed Rescue 1122 and other emergency services to keep their personnel and equipment on standby. Immediate drainage of water from residential areas has been mandated to prevent any possible flooding.
According to the latest forecast, the monsoon rains are expected to continue until September 4. Residents are advised to exercise caution, particularly around electric poles and hanging wires, to avoid accidents during the adverse weather conditions.
Motorways impacted:
Rainfall has affected major motorways including M2, M3, and the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway. The Motorway Police has reported slippages on the roads due to the rain and has urged motorists to drive with caution.
Areas such as Prathokar, Kot Abdul Malik, Faizpura, and Sheikhupura have experienced significant rainfall, while the stretch from Lahore to Jaranwala on the M3 has also been hit.
