The Met Department has issued an advisory warning of another round of intense monsoon rains across various regions of Pakistan from August 27 to 31.
The department has highlighted the possibility of stormy weather, particularly in the southern areas, due to a severe air pressure system currently situated north of Gujarat, India. This weather system is expected to enter Pakistan within the next 24 hours, bringing with it powerful monsoon winds.
The advisory indicates that a westerly wave may affect the upper regions of the country starting on August 29, potentially intensifying the rainfall in those areas. The Met Department has warned of the risk of flooding in low-lying regions of Sindh, Balochistan, and southern and central Punjab due to the anticipated heavy rains.
There is also a concern for glacier outbursts in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, which could lead to dangerous flooding events.
Specific areas expected to experience significant rainfall with strong winds, gusts, and thunderstorms include Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Benazirabad and other parts of Sindh from August 27 to 31. Heavy rain is expected in some places in these areas, and stormy rain in others.

Some places are likely to receive heavy rain, the department said.
The advisory extends to Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where heavy rain is predicted in areas such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh, Swat, Chitral, Dir, Malakand, Shangla, Mardan, Swabi and Kohistan.
Punjab weather
On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab has issued an alert for heavy monsoon rains across the province. A spokesperson confirmed that a new spell of monsoon rains is expected to begin this evening, with the wet weather forecasted to continue until August 31.
The PDMA has specifically warned of the risk of flash floods in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, and the mountainous Koh Sulaiman range. Director General Irfan Kathia has alerted provincial administrations to prepare for potential weather-related emergencies.
Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the anticipated severe weather conditions.
