The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued an alert for a new spell of monsoon rains expected to affect various regions across the province starting from August 25.
The PDMA spokesperson announced that this rain spell is likely to continue until August 29, bringing widespread rainfall to several divisions, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur.
The PDMA has warned of potential flash flooding in the DG Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions due to heavy downpours expected in the mountainous regions of Koh-e-Sulaiman and the Kirthar range. The spokesperson cautioned that these conditions could lead to significant flooding in the mountain streams.
In light of these warnings, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has urged district administrations, rescue services, civil defense, and other relevant departments to take special precautionary measures, especially during the upcoming Karbala martyrs' chehlum.
He also advised the public to avoid organizing events on unstable rooftops and in dilapidated buildings that could pose additional risks during the heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the Met Department has forecast that the weather in Islamabad will remain hot and humid during the day, with a possibility of rain accompanied by winds and thunderstorms in the evening.
Similar weather patterns are expected across various regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Balakot, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, Malakand, Mardan, Peshawar, and Kohat.
In addition, the department has predicted rainfall in several districts of Punjab, including Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, and Narowal.
The weather in Balochistan is expected to remain predominantly hot and humid, with chances of rain in a few areas such as Zhob, Barkhan, and nearby regions during the evening or night.
Sindh will also experience hot and humid conditions, with the possibility of rain in Mithi, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Sanghar, and at isolated spots in Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Dadu, and Jamshoro.
Authorities across the affected regions are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize the potential impact of these weather conditions on local populations.
