The K-Electric on Thursday submitted an application to the National Electric Power and Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a massive increase in power tariff.
The utility company is requesting a fuel adjustment of Rs 3.9 per unit for the month of July. If approved, this would add an additional burden of over Rs 6 billion on consumers.
NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on K-Electric’s application on August 29.
It's worth noting that NEPRA previously approved electricity price increases in May and June, responding to earlier requests from K-Electric.
In May, the price per unit was raised by Rs 2.59, followed by a further increase of Rs 3.16 per unit in June, both under the fuel price adjustment mechanism.
As this decision looms, consumers are bracing for the potential impact on their electricity bills, highlighting the ongoing challenge of managing energy costs in the region.
