The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has forecast rainfall across most districts of Punjab within the next 24 hours, as the region continues to grapple with a low-level flood situation in the Indus River.
According to PDMA DG Irfan Ali, while the water flow in the Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej rivers remains normal, the authority and local administrations are on high alert due to the potential for flooding in the hilly areas.
"Yesterday, moderate to high-level floodwaters passed through Pattuk and Suri North, but the situation in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan river hills has returned to normal," the spokesperson said.
In anticipation of rising waters, citizens residing in flood-prone areas had already been evacuated to safer locations.
In terms of reservoir levels, the water capacity at Mangla Dam is currently at 71%, while Tarbela Dam has reached its full capacity of 100%. The PDMA also reported that water levels in Indian dams, including Bhakra, Pong, and Thein, are relatively low, with capacities at 54%, 53%, and 26%, respectively.
The PDMA continues to monitor the situation closely as weather conditions evolve, urging the public to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
