The relentless monsoon rains have once again turned the serene landscapes of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into scenes of chaos and destruction.
As the heavens opened up, rivers and canals swelled beyond their limits, causing dams to break and bridges to be swept away. The effects have been devastating, with communities cut off from the rest of the region, homes inundated, and lives tragically lost.
Another perilous monsoon spell has hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, wreaking havoc across the province.
The torrential downpour has led to rivers and canals overflowing, with water spreading from place to place, engulfing everything in its path. In Khyber district, the rain drains could not withstand the deluge, causing widespread flooding that severely impacted the Pakistan-Afghanistan highway, a critical artery for travel and trade.
In South Waziristan, the situation turned dire as the check dam in Tora Gola collapsed, allowing floodwaters to rush into homes and apple orchards, causing significant damage. The overflowing streams in Tank spilled into the city, with the water level at the Garha Baloch bridge and other key locations reaching alarming heights.
Amid this natural disaster, tragedy struck as two people, including a young child, lost their lives. In Buner, a six-year-old child fell into the water at the Mandnar bridge, which had been overwhelmed by the floodwaters. In Swabi, a motorcyclist was swept away by the raging floods.
Dera Ismail Khan was also not spared, with streets turning into rivers due to a breach in the Ghari canal. The situation is equally dire in Mardan, Abbottabad, and surrounding areas, where streets and homes have been inundated, leaving residents in distress.
Authorities are on high alert, with urgent orders to evacuate villages in the Barakhel and Kot Piran areas due to the severe risk of flash floods. Efforts are underway to safeguard cities and prevent further devastation.
