Millions of Muslims were martyred by the Indian Army during the Partition of 1947, as it attacked several of their caravans.
Rashida Zafar, an eyewitness who witnessed this cruelty first hand, says that back then the people who migrated were in miserable condition. “Once my father came home and told us he saw a girl not much older than him, who was in a very bad condition.”
On being asked, he said he found the girl under a tree and brought her home. She had migrated from India and was a Muslim, he told them.
The story of Rashida Zafar reminds us about the hardships endured during the formation of Pakistan. The sufferings and struggle of Muslims during the Partition, the steadfastness of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and motivation for a separate country for Muslims remains unmatched and must not be forgotten.
Muslims sacrificed millions of lives to breathe in the air of freedom, the migrant urges for appreciation the freedom.
