The Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a five-year ban for key player Ehsanullah Jannat on corruption charges. This decision comes after Jannat was found guilty of violating both ACB and ICC anti-corruption codes.
The ACB's statement detailed that Jannat, a top-order batsman, breached anti-corruption rules during the Kabul Premier League. His infractions included attempts to improperly influence or alter the conduct of matches, which are serious violations under the ACB and ICC's anti-corruption articles.
Jannat has admitted to the charges and acknowledged his involvement in suspicious activities. Consequently, he will be ineligible to participate in all forms of cricket for the next five years.
The ACB's anti-corruption unit also disclosed that investigations are ongoing for three other players suspected of similar offenses. Decisions regarding these players will be made once the investigations are concluded.
Ehsanullah Jannat made his international debut against the Netherlands in the 2015-17 ICC Intercontinental Cup. Throughout his career, he has played three Tests and 16 ODIs for Afghanistan, amassing a total of 437 runs.
