Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its shifting stance on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman - the founder of Bangladesh - after protests against Sheikh Hasina Wajid.
Addressing a presser in Islamabad, Tarar highlighted that PTI, which once lauded Mujib as a hero, altered its position following the toppling of a statue.
Tarar questioned PTI's current narrative and accused the party of hypocrisy, inconsistency, and opportunism.
The minister also expressed solidarity with the Bangladeshi people and acknowledged their resilience and courage. He criticized PTI's former admiration for Sheikh Mujib, highlighting the party's contradictory stance.
Tarar elaborated on the constitutional provisions regarding floor crossing, noting that the rules are explicit and must be adhered to. He stated that an independent candidate must declare party affiliation within three days, as per the amended bill.
The federal minister also addressed concerns raised by two Supreme Court judges about the suspension of certain constitutional articles to enforce recent court decisions.
He slated the delay in the detailed judgment from the Supreme Court, which has now surpassed fifteen days, and called for adherence to proportional representation principles in parliamentary seat allocations.
