The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed a case against popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, summoning him to a Delhi court. The case stems from videos Rathee uploaded during the election period that were critical of the party.
BJP spokesperson Suresh Karmasheel Nakhwa filed a defamation claim against Rathee, alleging that his videos used inappropriate language and could incite violence. The complaint accuses Rathee of criticizing the media inappropriately during the election.
This legal action follows a separate case filed against Rathee by Maharashtra police earlier this month.
Rathee's videos reportedly exposed alleged corruption and irregularities within the BJP during the election period.
Some Indian journalists have expressed concern that these actions against Rathee and other content creators may be attempts to suppress freedom of expression.
Last month, the Indian government also imposed restrictions on social media, which some viewed as contradicting principles of free speech.
According to Indian media reports, the government is applying pressure on both domestic and foreign journalists through various means.
