Despite a notice from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the price of chicken meat in Lahore has decreased slightly, dropping by merely Rs6 to a new rate of Rs599 per kilogram.
Over the past month, chicken prices have seen a significant increase of Rs222 per kg, rising from Rs377 on June 25 to the current price of Rs599. Citizens have been vocal about their demands for a reduction in broiler chicken prices, which have been impacted by the rising costs of poultry feed and petroleum products.
Multan
In Multan, the price of chicken has surged dramatically within a week, climbing from Rs450 to Rs560 per kg. The increase is attributed to the higher costs of feed and fuel, making chicken increasingly unaffordable for the average consumer. Local residents are calling for measures to bring down the price of chicken, as the current rates are stretching household budgets.
Faisalabad
The situation in Faisalabad is similar, where the local administration has struggled to enforce the official chicken price. Despite the Chief Minister's notice, chicken prices have only seen a minor decrease of Rs5, with the market rate still at Rs630 per kg compared to the official rate of Rs600 per kg. Citizens in Faisalabad are also demanding stricter enforcement of official prices to counter the rampant "chicken mafia" controlling the market.
Sialkot
In Sialkot, chicken meat being sold at prices ranging from Rs680 to Rs. 700 per kg, significantly higher than the official rate of Rs599 per kg. The high prices have put chicken meat out of reach for many common people, and there are growing calls for the administration to take decisive action against the price gouging by the chicken mafia.
