The Accountability Court of Islamabad has extended the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi, for an additional seven days in connection with the new Toshakhana reference.
On July 14, the court initially approved an eight-day physical remand for the couple in the same case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sought an extension, which was granted, extending their remand until next Monday.
The accountability watchdog has filed a progress report concerning the investigation into the couple’s alleged involvement with the Toshakhana case, detailing their possession and alleged sale of ten valuable gifts, including seven watches.
The decision to grant further remand comes in light of a federal notification mandating the couple’s jail trial due to potential law and order concerns. The court’s directive aligns with this notification, underscoring the sensitive nature of the case.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were apprehended on July 13, shortly after securing bail in the Iddat Nikah case. This arrest was made in the context of the ongoing Toshakhana inquiry, which has drawn considerable public and political attention.
