Mahathir Mohamad, the 99-year-old former prime minister of Malaysia for 20 years, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday due to a cough, according to Reuters.
As per his spokesman, Mahathir has been admitted to the National Heart Institute since Monday and will be there for a few days. He did not provide any more information regarding his health.
The former prime minister was recently admitted to the hospital in January for a medical condition that was not identified, and he has a history of cardiac issues. It was almost three months before he was permitted to go.
Mahathir served as prime minister twice, the first of which concluded in 2003 after 22 years in office.
After the opposition coalition defeated the party he formerly led in a historic election victory in 2018, he became prime minister again at the age of 92.
His government collapsed in less than two years due to infighting.
