The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully thwarted a planned terrorist attack on the Muharram procession in Karachi with the arrest of a key militant.
DIG CTD Asif Ijaz Sheikh disclosed that Mohammad Shoaib, affiliated with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Dara Adam Khel, was apprehended in Etihad Town.
DIG Sheikh revealed that Shoaib, after arriving in Karachi, joined the proscribed TTP and was conspiring to target the 8th Muharram procession. The arrest has provided significant intelligence, with a suicide jacket recovered from Shoaib’s possession.
The CTD, under the leadership of DIG Sheikh, has intensified its efforts to preempt potential threats during the sensitive Muharram period.
The department is conducting further investigations to dismantle any additional threats and ensure the safety of the public.
