In an important move aimed at alleviating the energy crisis and reducing electricity costs, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the ‘Roshan Gharana’ program.
This initiative aims to provide solar panels to Punjab residents, especially targeting those who consume up to 500 units of electricity monthly.
The Chief Minister will convene a cabinet tomorrow (Tuesday) meeting to discuss and approve the project. The Punjab Cabinet is set to give its formal approval tomorrow, marking the official launch of this ambitious scheme.
The program promises to benefit millions of consumers by offering solar systems to households with electricity consumption ranging from 50 to 500 units. Notably, the Punjab government will cover 90% of the cost, leaving just 10% for the consumers to pay.
To ease the financial burden, the payments can be made in easy installments spread over five years. Additionally, during the winter months, the installment amounts will be reduced.
Under the ‘Roshan Gharana’ scheme, the solar panels will be supplied exclusively by the government, ensuring quality and reliability. Consumers will have the flexibility to choose between government-supplied electricity and solar-generated power based on their needs.
This initiative comes in response to the rising electricity costs and the ongoing energy crisis. The first phase of the project will prioritize the most impoverished families, following a transparent allocation process.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized her commitment to supporting the people of Punjab during challenging times. She assured that this initiative is part of her broader efforts to mitigate the impact of past crises and pave the way for a more stable future.
In five years, she envisions a scenario where current energy issues will no longer trouble the people of Punjab.
