The weather in most of the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained hot and humid on Wednesday, with Dera Ismail Khan and Bannu recording the highest temperatures at 44 degrees Celsius to become the hottest cities in the province.
According to the Met Department, Peshawar experienced a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours. The humidity level was 50%, adding to the discomfort. The province's plains continued to endure the heat, with Dera Ismail Khan being the hottest location.
The department has forecast thunderstorms for most parts of the province within the next 24 hours, providing a potential respite from the scorching heat. In anticipation of the upcoming weather changes, instructions have been issued to relevant authorities.

The KP chief minister has directed all the departments concerned to complete necessary arrangements to manage any emergency situations that may arise due to potential rains and floods during the current monsoon season.
Ali Amin Gandapur, urging all district administrations, emphasized the importance of adhering to the provincial government's Monsoon Contingency Plan.
The forecast of rain and thunderstorms brings hope of relief from the persistent heat but also raises concerns about the possibility of floods. Authorities are on high alert to ensure the safety and well-being of residents across the province.

Meanwhile, according to the Met Department, a new monsoon rain system will enter Balochistan today (Wednesday) and heat intensity continues in most areas of the province. In different areas, including Quetta, the intensity of heat remains 48 in Sibbi, Torbat Nokundi 47, Gwadar 43. Maximum of 38 degrees was recorded in Quetta.
A PDMA official has said there will be heavy rains in the Lasbela district. According to the authority, this year's monsoon rains will be more impactful than the 2022 monsoon rains. The second spell of Monsoon will continue till July 7.
