The Punjab government has initiated a comprehensive review focused on Chinese nationals arriving in the country as independent individuals, in a move aimed at bolstering security measures for Chinese residents in Pakistan.
According to officials, a specialized Chinese Security Intelligence Unit has been established within the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to oversee and enhance security protocols.
It has been noted that many independent Chinese residents refrain from using mobile applications, which has been informed to Chinese authorities, prompting the need for alternative monitoring and security measures.
"The security of Chinese residents has been prioritized as a critical concern in recent high-level apex meetings," disclosed sources from the Punjab Home Department. As part of these efforts, Chinese authorities have been informed about the security arrangements for their independent citizens residing in Pakistan.
To streamline security monitoring, the Home Department plans to enforce the use of a designated mobile application for Chinese residents, facilitating their better monitoring and ensuring rapid response capabilities in case of emergencies.
Furthermore, the number of bomb-proof vehicles has been increased to 50 across both China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and non-CPEC projects. Additionally, a dedicated bomb-proof vehicle pool has been established at the Services & General Administration Department (S&GAD) to support operational needs and emergency contingencies.
These measures are part of ongoing efforts by Pakistani authorities to strengthen bilateral security cooperation and safeguard the interests of Chinese nationals residing and working in Pakistan. The Punjab government remains committed to maintaining a secure environment conducive to mutual collaboration and development initiatives between Pakistan and China.
