Pakistan’s cement industry witnessed a significant surge in exports during May 2024, according to statistics released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA).
May 2024 saw a remarkable 72.16% increase in cement exports compared to May 2023. The total exported volume reached an impressive 917,962 tons, a significant jump from the 533,215 tons exported in the same month last year.
While domestic sales saw a more modest increase of 7.83% in May 2024 compared to May 2023, the overall cement sales picture remains positive. Total sales reached 4.275 million tonnes in May 2024, up from 3.965 million tonnes in May 2023.
Looking at the bigger picture, the positive export trend extends to the first eleven months of the current financial year (July 2023 to May 2024). During this period, total cement sales reached 41.7 million tonnes, compared to 40.516 million metric tons in the same period of the previous financial year.
However, the growth story is driven primarily by exports. Cement exports during the first eleven months of the current financial year witnessed a staggering increase of 66.26%, reaching 6.633 million tons. This is a significant jump from the 3.99 million tons exported during the same period in the previous financial year.
Domestic sales, on the other hand, experienced a slight decline of 3.91% in the first eleven months. This year, domestic sales stood at 35.097 million tonnes, compared to 36.526 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year.
