Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has issued summons to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) top brass on Imran Khan's controversial X ( formerly Twitter) post over the 1971 debacle.
Notices have been dispatched to Umar Ayub, Barrister Gohar Khan, and Rauf Hassan, calling them for questioning on Tuesday at 11 am.
The inquiry, spearheaded by the FIA's Cyber Wing, focuses on the illegal use of PTI founder Imran Khan's social media account to disseminate a provocative video.
The video, uploaded on May 26, allegedly incited public unrest by addressing the findings of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report, with a contentious remark: "Every Pakistani should study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."
Sources within the FIA indicated that the video sought to shift the blame for the 1971 breakup of Pakistan onto General Yahya Khan, accusing the Pakistani military of severe misconduct during the conflict.
The post, made from the former Prime Minister's official account on platform X (formerly Twitter), also included imagery of current civilian and military leaders, insinuating their role in undermining PTI’s mandate in recent elections.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, responding to the video had clarified that the post was not intended to target the military and should be perceived within a political framework. "The context and comparison we drew with 1971 was purely political and not aimed at the army," stated Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
Imran Khan refuses to meet FIA team
Following the commencement of an inquiry by the FIA, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan refused to meet a Federal Investigation Agency cyber crime team which visited Adiala Jail to grill him about the latest controversial tweet shared from his account.
Khan took the plea that he could not meet the FIA team in the absence of his lawyers.
The team, however, returned with a written response by the embattled PTI leader who has been embroiled in a number of cases.
