YouTuber Yasir Shami -accused of disseminating viral videos featuring the late Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain - surrendered on Thursday himself before the court.
The case, which has garnered widespread attention, reached a conclusion as Shami appeared before the Karachi City Courts, where the matter was heard by the Judicial Magistrate East.
Despite the gravity of the allegations against him, Yasir Shami was granted bail upon submission of a Rs2.5 million surety bond. The court's decision to grant bail also came with the directive for Shami to present himself before the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and provide his statement regarding the case.
This development follows a series of summons issued by the court after Shami's repeated absence from proceedings. Legal representatives have underscored the significance of Shami's presence in advancing the case, with lawyer Sarkar emphasizing the issuance of an arrest warrant due to his persistent non-appearance.
The legal saga surrounding the viral videos of Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain has witnessed the involvement of multiple individuals, including accused Daniya Shah, who has been out on bail.
Liaqat Gabol, representing Shah, asserted Shami's pivotal role in the case's progression, attributing delays to his actions.
Looking ahead, the next hearing scheduled for May 23 promises to be crucial, as arguments will be presented regarding the confirmation of Yasir Shami's bail. Furthermore, with the surrender of another accused in the case, the legal landscape is set to evolve, with an amended charge sheet anticipated to be filed at the upcoming hearing.
