Seven people were killed when unidentified people lobbed a hand grenade and opened fire inside a house in the Surbandar area of Balochistan's Gwadar city on Thursday morning.
The police say that the seven victims were sleeping inside the house when it was attacked, adding that they all belonged to Khanewal's Mian Channu tehsil, and worked at a barber's shop in Surbandar. One person was injured in the attack, they added.
The Balochistan government has strongly condemned the killing of innocent labourers in Gwadar. Home Minister Mir Zia Langove has said that the killing of the labourers was an open act of terrorism and a cowardly act. The involved terrorists would be brought to justice, he vowed.
He said a report had been sought into the incident, adding that the terrorists would be dealt with an iron hand. The incident is being probed from various angles.
An investigation into the incident was ordered by the government, as authorities reached the crime scene.
The deceased Asad, Habib and Sajid belonged to village 134 16-L, while Ansar and Shan belonged to village 89 15-L, Muqrib belonged to 11B8R village and Adnan belonged to Abdul Hakeem.
PM, Punjab CM condole
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the killing of the seven labourers in Gwadar. He prayed for the deceased and extended condolences to the bereaved families. The PM said he shared the grief of the grieved. "This incident of terrorism is a cowardly act of the enemies of the country," PM Sharif remarked. "We are determined to eradicate the scourge of terrorism."
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also strongly condemned the terrorist incident and expressed deep sorrow and grief over the killing of seven people belonging to Khanewal. She also extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims.
"We will wipe out the terrorists who are playing with the lives of innocent people," Maryam stressed.
