Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) announced on Wednesday the rescheduling of its general council meeting to May 28,
The decision, revealed by Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, comes following consultations with key party leaders and coinciding with the anniversary of Pakistan's nuclear tests, famously known as "Youm-e-Takbeer".
Originally slated for May 11th, the meeting holds particular importance as it is expected to usher in pivotal changes within the PML-N leadership.
Sources said that the anticipated reshuffle may see former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique assuming prominent roles. Speculations abound that Rafique could be appointed as the party's secretary general, replacing Ahsan Iqbal, who has expressed his desire to step down from the position.
"I informed the party leadership of my intention to relinquish the post years ago," remarked Iqbal, who currently oversees the Ministry of Planning and Development. The anticipated leadership overhaul also extends to the top position, with indications suggesting Nawaz Sharif's reinstatement as the party president.
The assertion was confirmed by PML-N Punjab chapter President Rana Sanaullah, who stated, "Nawaz will lead the party again. The PML-N will move forward under his leadership," during a press interaction in Lahore.
Echoing similar sentiments, Senator Irfan Siddiqui highlighted the necessity for a full-time president and hinted at Nawaz Sharif's resurgence to the party's helm.
