President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz conveyed on Wednesday their heartfelt tributes to the working class on the occasion of International Labour Day.
President Asif Ali Zardari emphasised the significance of ensuring safety and health for workers amidst seasonal changes and pledged to uphold their dignity. He acknowledged the historical struggle of workers and underscored the need for educational facilities and essential protection for their children.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister House, PM Shehbaz extended his commendations to those who toil and strive for earning their livelihood through lawful means.
He emphasised that these individuals play a pivotal role in the country's economy and development, not only supporting their families but also contributing significantly to the nation's progress.
The prime minister acknowledged the delicate economic situation Pakistan is currently facing, understanding well the profound impact of the prevailing inflation on our working class.
"The government is making earnest efforts to alleviate the challenges faced by our economically vulnerable compatriots through special subsidies, social protection, and poverty alleviation programs," PM Shehbaz said.
PM Shehbaz affirmed the government's commitment to further enhance the well-being of the workers by promoting better and affordable housing, free education and healthcare, and social protection measures.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif saluted the hardworking individuals worldwide and particularly emphasized the respect for labor in Islam.
She hailed the efforts of working women in upholding family honor and stressed the importance of societal programs for workers' welfare.
She emphasized the need for a culture of respect for workers and initiatives aimed at creating a society where the contribution of every laborer is valued.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commemorated the day by remembering the struggles of sacrifices of Chicago workers against oppression and tyranny. He praised the laborers as heroes contributing to the nation's prosperity and called for efforts to protect their rights and enhance their social well-being.
The leaders collectively reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the rights of workers and pledged to take measures for their welfare and social upliftment.
