The govt has initiated a rigorous crackdown on traffickers. The move comes amidst widespread suffering caused by the illicit trade of commodities like flour, sugar, fertilizer, and oil.
From April 7th to 14th, authorities reported significant seizures, including 1.18 metric tons of sugar, 1,851 stocks of cigarettes, 17 bags of cloth, and Iranian oil confiscated across various regions. Notably, Karachi and Quetta emerged as hotspots, with 315 and 1,536 cigarette stocks seized, respectively.
Additionally, substantial quantities of sugar were intercepted, with 0.41 metric tons from Peshawar and 0.77 metric tons from Quetta. Further, 17 bags of clothes were recovered in Karachi, while Iranian oil was seized in Multan and Karachi.
Since September 1, 2023, the government has made huge strides in dealing with trafficking, with 3,036 metric tons of fertilizer, 247 metric tons of flour, 34,029 metric tons of sugar, 229,867 cigarette stocks, 245,068 cloth bags, and Iranian oil exported across the country.
