The Bahawalpur Millat Express train tragedy involved a girl named Maryam who was allegedly tortured by personnel from the Pakistan Railways Police leading to her death.
It remains unclear whether she jumped from the moving train herself or if she was pushed. The victim’s brother has accused the Railways Police personnel of killing his sister.
SAMAA TV interviewed neighbors of the victim — Maryam — who stated that she was not mentally ill.
According to them, she worked in a beauty parlor and was known for her friendly and gentle demeanor. Maryam was traveling from Karachi to Faisalabad, but tragically, this journey became her last aboard the Millat Express.
Umar Farooq, another neighbor, described Maryam as a friendly and kind person, adding that she had been living in the same flat for six years and was mentally stable.
Another neighbor Saad reiterating the sentiments of locals demanded a transparent investigation into the incident.
