The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has announced a plan to distribute 20,000 bikes—a mix of petrol and electric—to ease student transportation woes.
In a recent ceremony, the Transport Department and Punjab Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the program.
Ms Nawaz herself inspected samples of the electric and petrol bikes, ensuring quality standards are met. She even directed that the bikes be painted in the signature green color of the Punjab government.
During the ceremony, she personally inspected the proposed electric and petrol bikes, emphasizing the importance of ensuring high-quality standards.
She also instructed authorities to color the bikes in accordance with the Punjab government’s green logo, reflecting the province's commitment to environmental sustainability.
Addressing the gathering, the Punjab CM announced that 19,000 petrol and 1,000 electric bikes would be allocated to students on a monthly installment basis, without incurring any interest. She underscored the government's commitment to facilitating students by providing bikes through easy installment plans.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the equitable distribution of bikes among male and female students, emphasizing the importance of gender inclusivity in the initiative. She expressed her satisfaction with the equal representation of both genders in the distribution process.
The registration process for students to avail of the bikes will commence promptly, ensuring swift implementation of the program. The monthly installment for petrol bikes is set at five thousand, while electric bike installments will be even more affordable, costing less than ten thousand rupees.
