The nomination papers of 12 candidates for general seats in the Senate elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including notable names from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have been rejected by the returning officer.
The rejected names included PTI's Murad Saeed, Azam Swati, former KP chief minister Mehmood Khan among a total of nine candidates for the general seats.
Notably, Azam Swati's name was not included in the list of technocrats as well.
However, eligible candidates for the Senate elections from KP include Niaz Ahmed, a son of PML-N's Amir Muqam; former deputy speaker Mirza Muhammad Afridi; former federal minister Noorul Haq Qadri, former senator Faisal Javed, and Irfan Saleem.
The nomination papers of Qazi Muhammad Anwar, Syed Irshad Hussain Shah and Dilawar Khan were approved for the technocrats seat. Begum Tahira Bukhari, Rubina Khalid and Ayesha Bano were declared eligible for female women's seats.

The nomination papers of 16 candidates for seven general seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eight candidates for two seats of technocrats, and six candidates for two women seats have been declared valid for the Senate elections.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, the election commission processed nomination papers for the Senate elections, where two notable rejections were observed, including PTI's Zulfi Bukhari and Sanam Javed, for general and women's seats respectively.
Additionally, the nomination papers of Irfan Ahmed Daha and Khawaja Habibur Rehman for the general seat were rejected, along with PML-N's Mian Najibuddin Owaisi's papers. Furthermore, PML-N's Suraiya Naseem's papers for a reserved seat for women and Tariq Javed's papers for the minority seat were also rejected.
Overall, a total of seven candidates had their nomination papers rejected in Lahore.
