In a bid to facilitate uncontested Senate elections in Punjab, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan and PPP MPA Ali Haider Gilani have intensified their combined efforts.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led treasury has extended an offer to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), proposing two general seats from Punjab. This offer has been conveyed to the PTI members in Punjab Assembly by Ali Haider.
The PPP leader maintained that if the PTI withdrew the nomination papers of its candidates, it could pave the way for uncontested elections in Punjab.
He claimed to have held discussions with key figures within the PTI, including Rana Aftab, Moin Qureshi, and Rana Shehbaz, in efforts to reach a consensus. Gilani said that a response from the PTI is expected today regarding the proposal.

Meanwhile, in Balochistan, negotiations are underway between the PML-N, PPP, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) to determine the allocation of Senate seats with consensus. It is anticipated that one seat may be allocated to the BAP as per consensus.
On the other hand, the PPP remains confident of securing all available seats from Sindh, demonstrating a unified front in the province.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a comprehensive code of conduct in preparation for the upcoming Senate elections.
The code of conduct imposes strict guidelines on political parties and candidates participating in the elections.
One of the key provisions prohibits parties and candidates from making statements against the ideology of Pakistan and its integrity. Additionally, any statement intended to denigrate the armed forces, parliament, or the judiciary is strictly forbidden.
