The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has blamed consumers for the non-delivery of gas during Ramazan, attributing the issue to the high demand during Sehr and Iftar times.
According to a spokesperson for SSGC, the simultaneous lighting of stoves by millions of consumers during these times puts immense pressure on the gas supply system, leading to reduced gas pressure for consumers.
"Millions of stoves are turned on at the time of Sehr and Iftar, which significantly reduces the gas pressure," stated the spokesperson, Salman Wasfi. Additionally, the spokesperson highlighted that some consumers exacerbate the problem by installing gas compressors to siphon off gas from others, further contributing to the strain on the gas supply network.
The installation of gas compressors is deemed illegal by SSGC, with the spokesperson emphasizing that individuals found engaging in such practices will have their gas connections terminated. Despite these challenges, SSGC claims that they are implementing 90% of the scheduled gas supply during Sehr and Iftar times.
However, areas located at the tail ends of gas pipelines are particularly affected by low gas pressure, leading to difficulties for consumers in these regions. The spokesperson clarified that gas load management is being conducted due to a significant disparity between gas demand and supply.
