Today marks the retirement of 52 members of the Senate as they complete their term, including 11 from the PML-N, further reducing the party's representation in the Senate to five members.
The seat held by PML-N's Rana Maqbool was already vacant due to his demise.
Prominent figures retiring from the PML-N include Ishaq Dar, Hafiz Abdul Kareem, and Asif Kirmani, among others. Additionally, Rana Mehmoodul Hasan, Dr Musadik Malik, Shaheen Khalid, Nuzhat Sadiq, Kamran Michael, Asadullah Khan Junejo, Mushahid Hussain Syed and Sabir Shah are also retiring today.
Moreover, senators from the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI), are also completing their terms today.
Among the 13 retirements from the PPP are Rukhsana Zuberi, Khaleda Sikandar, Imam Din Shauqeen, Maula Bakhsh Chandio, Muhammad Ali Shah, Raza Rabbani, Waqar Mehdi, Keshav Bai, Quratulain Marri, Anwar Lal Deen, Bahramand Tangi, Rubina Khalid and Shamim Afridi.
Furthermore, seven senators from the PTI are also completing their six-year tenure today, including the leader of the opposition, Dr Shehzad Waseem, Seemi Ezdi, Waleed Iqbal, Faisal Javed, Fida Muhammad, Azam Khan Swati and Mehr Taj Roghani.
PTI's Shaukat Tarin has already retired.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl's Talha Mehmood and Maulvi Faiz Muhammad are also bidding farewell to the Senate, as is MQM-Pakistan's Farogh Naseem.
Furthermore, senators from smaller parties and independents, including four from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). They are Ahmed Khan, Kuhda Babar, Naseebullah Bazai and Sana Jamali. Anwarul Haq Kakar from the BAP had already resigned from his Senate seat after assuming the caretaker prime minister's office.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, who also belongs to the BAP, has already taken the oath as a Balochistan Assembly member.
Furthermore, National Party's Muhammad Akram and Tahir Bizenjo will also retire today, as will Muzaffar Hussain Shah, the only member of PML-Functional.
Sardar Shafiq Tareen and Abida Azeem of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party are also included among those retiring from the Upper House today.
Jamaat-e-Islami's only senator, Mushtaq Ahmed, and four independent senators are also retiring today. The independent senators include Deputy Chairman Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Dilawar Khan, Hilalur Rehman and Hidayatullah.
The retirement of these senators will undoubtedly bring about changes in the dynamics of the Senate, paving the way for new faces and perspectives in Pakistan's legislative body.
