Trade activities resume at the Pak-Afghan border in Chaman after a five-month closure. The government of Pakistan, with the assistance of the Pakistan Army, successfully facilitated the reopening of the border, which had been shut since November 2023.
The closure had led to significant economic hardships for the local community, with many losing their livelihoods and poverty levels rising.
The border saw the passage of empty vehicles on February 17 and freight vehicles on February 27, marking the restoration of trade.
The development was expected to bring relief to the affected population by reinstating employment opportunities and reducing poverty levels on both sides of the border.
The resumption of customs functions signals a return to normalcy for businesses, which had suffered considerable financial losses during the prolonged closure.
