Prince of Wales Prince William, the heir to the British throne, will embark on a mission to “recognise the human suffering” caused by the recent conflict in Gaza and the Middle East and shine a light on the escalating global issue of antisemitism, his office said in a statement.
This trip marks a significant step for the Prince, who previously became the first senior royal to visit Israel and the Palestinian Territories in 2018.
During his visit, Kensington Palace said, Prince William will engage with individuals involved in humanitarian efforts in the region, seeking first-hand accounts of the situation on the ground. He will also visit a synagogue and discuss efforts to combat hatred and antisemitism with young activists.
This high-profile engagement comes at a time when Prince William's father, King Charles III, is recovering from cancer and unable to fulfil his official duties. Additionally, his wife Kate is also recovering from a recent abdominal surgery.
“The prince and princess were profoundly concerned by events that unfolded in late 2023 and continue to hold all the victims, their family, and friends in their hearts and minds,” William’s office said in a statement. “Their royal highnesses continue to share in the hope of a better future for all those affected.”
This visit signifies the British royal family's commitment to acknowledging the human cost of the conflict and promoting understanding and dialogue in the region, while also addressing the concerning rise of antisemitism worldwide.
