Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is once again facing the troubling issue of cabin crew disappearing during layovers in Canada. This time, Steward Ayaz Qureshi has been reported missing after failing to report for duty for the return flight from Toronto.
The incident comes just a month after two other PIA air hostesses slipped away during layovers in Canada, prompting the airline to launch an investigation into the matter.
According to a PIA spokesman, Ayaz Qureshi, who belongs to the PIA Lahore base, did not show up for the return flight from Toronto.
The spokesman confirmed the disappearance and stated that the airline was in contact with the authorities in Canada to locate him.
Last month, the national flag carrier implemented stricter regulations for flight attendants travelling to Canada and European countries in response to recent incidents of staff members "slipping away" after arriving in these destinations.
These measures followed a string of incidents where PIA flight attendants had disappeared from their assigned duties upon reaching Canada and European countries.
On November 10, two stewards assigned to a flight from Islamabad to Canada disappeared in Toronto. This incident prompted PIA's decision to impose stricter controls on air hostess travel to Canada and Europe.
This restriction aimed to reduce the risk of older flight attendants slipping away, as they may be more susceptible to the allure of better job prospects in these regions.
