The first commercial flight of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from Karachi landed at Gwadar International Airport.
Flight PK-503, carrying 46 passengers, took off at 9:50 am and landed at the new Gwadar Airport at 11:14 am.
The inauguration of Gwadar International Airport took place Monday with an inauguration flight.
Federal Minister for Aviation Khawaja Asif officially inaugurated the airport and revived the first commercial flight of Pakistan International Airlines from Karachi Airport.
The Gwadar Airport is the second greenfield airport in Pakistan and is capable of accommodating large aircraft like the Airbus A380, sources say.
Earlier a NOTIM was issued: “Consequent upon operationalization of new Gwadar International Airport (OPGW) from January 20, 2025, the existing Gwadar International Airport (OPGD) will be closed for all scheduled/non-scheduled air traffic and all other facilities have been withdrawn.”

ATR can stand for Avions de Transport Régional, which is a joint venture between Airbus and Leonardo that manufactures aircraft. ATR may also refer to Air Transport Rack, which is a standard form factor for aircraft electronic equipment.
