Sardar Ibrahim Khan was born on April 22, 1915, in the Kot Mattay Khan area of Poonch district.
He graduated from Lincoln's Inn and the University of London with a law degree after completing his BA at Islamia College in Lahore.
In 1946, Sardar Ibrahim Khan was elected as a member in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
He approved the resolution for Kashmir's accession to Pakistan on July 19, 1947, during a Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference meeting held at his home.
He founded Azad Jammu and Kashmir on October 24, 1947, during the Poonch uprising, by soundly/thoroughly/terribly defeating Maharaja Hari Singh's army.
Sardar Ibrahim Khan was elected the first President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in 1948.
During his lifetime, Sardar Ibrahim Khan served as the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir four times.
He passed away on 31st July 2003, at the age of 88 and was buried in his ancestral/native village, Kot Mattay Khan.
Due to his major contributions to Kashmir Freedom Movement, Sardar Ibrahim Khan is remembered/known by the titles “Ghazi-e-Millat” and “Bani-e-Kashmir”.
