The severe heat conditions in Karachi have tragically claimed the lives of at least 17 people over the past 36 hours, with most of the deceased identified as drug addicts.
The intensification of heat, worsened by the lack of sea breeze in the city, has led to dire situations. Rescue workers have been tirelessly responding to incidents across various neighbourhoods, transporting bodies to morgues for further processing.
Rescue sources said 17 bodies were brought to the morgue within 36 hours, underscoring the severity of the situation.
Rescue sources said most of the deceased individuals appeared to be drug addicts from their appearances and their bodies were found in areas, including Lyari, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jehanabad, Liaquatabad, Landhi, Lines Area, and Garden.
From Lines Area, Bilal, a father of three, was found dead from the severe heat. His family sources say Bilal collapsed due to heat stroke and load shedding, and subsequently suffered a cardiac arrest.
One of the bodies was found in Clifton area also.
Out of these deaths, two died on Wednesday, while 49 others were severely affected due to the extreme temperatures.
According to the Sindh Health Department, the deceased were identified as 54-year-old Fazal Rahman and 54-year-old Ramesh.
At the Civil Hospital, 22 individuals were admitted due to heat-related issues, and two deaths. Similarly, 22 citizens were shifted to Liaquatabad Government Hospital.
