Early morning heavy rainfall in Lahore brought a significant drop in temperature, offering a much-needed respite from the summer heat. With wind blowing through the city, Lahoris welcomed the pleasant change in weather.
This marks the entry of another pre-monsoon spell in Lahore, providing relief from the heatwave that gripped the city. These rains are set to continue for the next two days, according to the Met Department.
The heaviest rainfall was recorded in the Farrukhabad area, with an impressive 45mm. Other areas also saw substantial rainfall: PanI Wala Talab with 43mm, Gulshan-e-Ravi 42mm, Mughalpura 40mm, Lakshmi Chowk 39mm, and around Mall Road 38mm. Tajpura experienced 37mm, Nishtar Town 29mm, and Gulberg 28mm.
The heavy rain, however, caused water accumulation in several low-lying areas, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to mobilize teams for drainage operations.
Additionally, many feeders of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) tripped, leading to power outages in areas such as Lower Mall, Dharampura, Chungi Amar Sidhu, and Basti Saidan Shah. More rain is expected throughout the day.
Kasur
In Kasur, heavy rainfall early in the morning broke the intense heat and humidity, leading to a drop in temperature. The city experienced power outages as feeders tripped, plunging many areas into darkness. Streets and sloping areas were flooded due to water accumulation.
Daska
Daska witnessed continuous rain accompanied by thunder, resulting in a significant temperature decrease. Cold winds added to the pleasant weather, but the rain also caused feeders to trip, leading to power outages in various parts of the city.
Wazirabad
Heavy rainfall in Wazirabad and its surrounding areas created a similar situation. The weather turned pleasant, but multiple feeders tripped, causing power interruptions in several areas.
Gujrat
Gujrat experienced heavy rainfall, leading to a pleasant break from the heat. However, low-lying areas were inundated, and water accumulated on the main highways, highlighting the absence of district administration in managing the situation.
Karachi
Meanwhile, in Karachi, the weather remained partly cloudy with sea breezes blowing since morning. The current temperature stood at 33 degrees Celsius, with the maximum expected to rise between 34 and 36 degrees. The minimum temperature was recorded at 30.5 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 62%. Southwest winds were blowing at a speed of 28 km per hour, contributing to the city's moderate weather conditions.
