Tragedy struck Muawiya village in Bannu as heavy rains caused the wall of a house to cave in, killing four children and an adult, with several others injured.
As per rescue sources, the victims, aged between five and seven years old, were identified as Asim, Owais, Tanzeela, and Wasila.
Rescue efforts were swiftly launched by Bannu's Rescue 1122 officials, who, with the assistance of local residents, managed to extricate the injured and deceased from the rubble.
Despite their efforts, one of the injured children succumbed to their injuries during treatment, raising the death toll to four. The incident occurred owing to persistent rainfall throughout the day and night on Friday that weakened the structure of the house.
The tragic incident in Bannu was not an isolated one, as reports emerged of multiple incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where roofs and walls collapsed under the weight of heavy rains, snowfall, and hailstorms. In total, nine fatalities and six injuries were reported in various districts, including Peshawar, Shangla, and Bajaur.
According to the official data, many animals were killed in various incidents due to the ongoing rains in the province, while several houses were also partially damaged.
In one particularly devastating incident in Bisham, a landslide was triggered by lightning, which resulted in further casualties. In various incidents, eight children and one woman were among the deceased.
According to the Meteorological Department, rains are likely to continue in the plain areas of the province during the next 24 hours, while snowfall is likely to continue in the hilly areas.
