Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) air hostess Sumira managed to reach Canada without a passport.
Sumaira was assigned to duty on flight PK 781 from Islamabad to Toronto when the unprecedented incident unfolded.
According to sources within the airline, the air hostess traveled from Islamabad to Toronto relying solely on PIA General Declaration documents, circumventing the standard passport requirement.
Upon discovery of the breach, PIA has been slapped with a hefty fine for allowing flight attendants to arrive in Canada without proper documentation.
Meanwhile, the national carrier's spokesperson confirmed that PIA has been fined $250 for the incident.
Contrary to speculations circulating in some quarters, PIA has vehemently denied reports suggesting that the air hostess intended to seek political asylum upon landing in Canada. The airline has emphasised that such claims are unfounded.
It is pertinent more than 10 PIA air hostesses have gone missing in Canada over the past two years, raising concerns about the welfare and safety of airline staff operating on international routes.
Further details regarding the fine imposed on PIA and the circumstances surrounding Samira's journey to Canada are expected to emerge, with senior reporter Javed Asghar poised to provide deeper insights into the matter.=
